With the Guu wave hitting Toronto, a number of izakaya (居酒屋) restaurants are being established.  We watched as the warn-down building across the street experience the transformation, and without a doubt Don Don looks spectacular with the Japanese drums across the whole window facade.  We waited everyday for it to open, only seeing private parties and training and a million different things going on except opening.

After a long wait, it finally opened and we anxiously went to try it with no disappointment.  As a nature of this type of restaurant, all the dishes were relative small so you can order a few more.  Compared to Guu, Don Don has a lot more food choices (like a whole booklet of dishes).  The skewers are buy one get one, but they were so small (i.e. the fired cheese skewer), even 10 skewers cannot make you full.  Unless you are a big fan of FAT and OIL, seriously, don't try the bacon wrapped asparagus as the bacon is basically ALL fat.  I would say the ginger chicken and a rice (sorry I forgot to take a photo of it) with beef were the most tasty and filling dishes of this meal.  Although each dish were a few bucks to a little over $10, but the portions are so small you have to keep ordering and the bill definitely adds up quickly.

Just like all other izakaya restaurants, the atmosphere within the restaurant was very energetic and the service was very good.  The server's English language as usual is very limited, but their smiles were excellent. This restaurant also had a bar section with a large alcohol selection.  This restaurant also has some booths and the tables are set in a way which is less crowded as Guu.  Overall, the experience at Don Don was quite good, we will probably go again.
